Ka’anapali Beach Club workers ratify new union contract
Congratulations to our members at Ka’anapali Beach Club on Maui!! 95% of Local 5 members voted Yes to ratify a new contract that includes an option for workers to join in on our Union’s Health & Welfare Fund, improved wage increases, 1 1/2 time pay for tipped workers while on vacation and for personal days & improvements to housekeeping workload!
Local 5 members travel to mainland to defeat Trump
Local 5 members went to Las Vegas and Phoenix to join other union members from around the country to get out the vote! Vegas workers succeeded in winning Nevada for Hillary Clinton, and they got Catherine Cortez Masto and Ruben Kihuen elected to Congress. Phoenix workers defeated longtime Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who was infamous for his anti-immigrant enforcement policies.

Love Trumps Hate Rally
Local 5 and AiKea marched with over 1,100 people in a Love Trumps Hate rally. We let the community know that UNITE HERE has called for a national boycott of businesses Trump owns, has invested in, or has partnered with until the hotel honors its legal duty to bargain with members of the Culinary Union 226 in Las Vegas.
4 unfairly terminated workers get their jobs back
The Contract Enforcement Team filed grievances after 4 Hilton Hawaiian Village workers were unfairly terminated. The grievances went to mediation, and around 10 people came to testify in support of their coworkers. All four workers got their jobs back, their terminations were reduced to suspensions, and they get to maintain their seniority.
Sheraton grounds department workers step up
Leaders from the Grounds department at Sheraton delegated management without the help of their organizers. They brought up issues in their department around standard operations, communication, training new hires, and more. Management agreed to work with them to address these issues.
