Area of inspection:Inspection findings:
Plexiglas (or other) barriersNo Plexiglas or other barriers had been installed at the front desk and bell/valet desk (see photo below)
Hand sanitizerThe hand sanitizer station in the employee cafeteria was not working (see photo below).
Social distancing The PBX phone operator office had not been reconfigured. Plexiglas or other barriers had not been installed. It is unclear how 5-6 workers will be able to socially distance in this space.
SignageOur inspector did not observe any signs about social distancing, or mask wearing in the parking garage, near its elevators, or on employee bulletin boards (see photos below).

The hotel responded as of August 18, 2020 to concerns raised from the inspection:

  • Regarding non-working hand sanitizer in the employee cafeteria, the hotel said, “I understand that you identified a Hand Sanitizer Machine in Mokihana’s that was not working due to dead batteries.  Stewarding is responsible for making sure that there is always sanitizing liquid in the machine and that it is working properly.  We will remind that team that they must always check and / or report when the machine’s batteries are dead or if the machine is not working appropriately.”
  • Regarding social distancing in the PBX work area, the hotel said, “As I previously mentioned on one of our calls we had ordered the Plexiglas for that department as our plan is to separate each work station. The partitions have not come in yet so in the meantime we have socially distanced those in the department.”
  • Regarding signage in the parking garage, the hotel said, “As the Garage is currently closed to the public and the hotels remain closed, our plan was to add signage within the hotels first and we will continue to add signage throughout the garage area.”

You can view protocol documents the hotel sent in response to Local 5’s information request here, the union received these protocols on September 21, 2020.
