Voting the right people in office is only the first step. We need to make sure that our federal and state leaders take care of our families and community first.

We call on our political leaders to prioritize Hawaii’s working families by :

  • Ensuring quick and prompt processing of unemployment benefits. Thousands of Hawaii workers who lost their jobs because of the pandemic are still waiting for their unemployment claims.
  • Subsidizing healthcare coverage. In addition to lost of jobs, workers also found their medical coverage lapsed. Many are forced to pay out-of-pocket for health care costs. No one should be worrying about health care coverage in a pandemic!
  • Securing a fair process for workers to get their jobs back. Thousands of workers are pushing the Honolulu City Council to revive Bill 80, which would require hotels to continue to offer daily hotel room cleaning and put in place a process for hospitality workers who initially lost their jobs due to COVID-19 to be the first offered their jobs back as business returns. This will ensure that workers, particularly the non-union hotel workers, will not face hiring discrimination and prolonged job uncertainty as business comes back.

We say: Put the People First!
