Marriott Strikers Win Contracts in 2 Cities; Walkout Continues Elsewhere

(Labor Press) – By Steve Wishnia. DETROIT, Mich.—Workers at Marriott hotels in Detroit and Oakland approved contract deals ending their four-week walkouts over the Nov. 2-4 weekend, but the bulk of the more than 7,000 workers on strike against the chain remain out.

Some Progress Made on Strike Negotiations

Local 5 met with management of five hotels owned by Kyo-Ya over the weekend to try and bring an end to a four week worker strike. Some progress was made on issues pertaining to job security, but matters of compensation, benefits, and work load still remain unsettled.
