Hilton front desk worker wins $30,0000

2016.05.05 HHV Amy Tam victoryWhile working, a drawer at the front desk fell on HHV Front Desk worker Amy Tam’s foot. She immediately reported the injury to her manager. Amy decided not to pursue any workers’ comp claim.  Nonetheless, the Employer fired Amy because it claimed she lied about the injury. CET filed a grievance and was on the eve of arbitrating the case when the Employer agreed to pay her $30,000 walk-away. Congratulations to CET and Amy for fighting!

Waikoloa Beach Marriott workers ratify new union contract

Hilton utility steward wins back pay

2016.04.12 HHV Jim PecanJim Pecan, a utility steward at the Hilton Hawaiian Village, won 8 hours of back pay for a lost work opportunity because the employer did not schedule by seniority. Congrats to Jim and the Contract Enforcement Team for filing and winning this grievance!

Aston Waikiki Beach workers in solidarity with other non-union hotel workers

12986966_1360124744014530_4812783303808893909_nAston Waikiki Beach workers join other non-union hotel workers from Phoenix, New Orleans, Chicago, and Santa Clara. They are standing in solidarity with the housekeepers of Hotel Burnham in Chicago who are negotiating their first union contract.

The workers at Aston Waikiki Beach and Hotel Renew have been fighting for a fair process to decide whether to unionize since February 2015. Management refuses.

Hilton reservation agent fights final written warning

2016.03.31 HHV Jaclyn Tom, GailJaclyn Tom, a Hilton Hawaiian Village reservation agent, was issued a final written warning for tardiness. She clocked in at 7:01a for a shift that begins at 7:00a. She worked with her Shop Steward Gail Kawaguchi to investigate and file a grievance. They successfully argued that clocking in 1 minute late should not be considered excessive tardiness, and her warning was expunged. Congratulations!

Turtle Bay Resort worker wins back pay without filing grievance

2016.04.06 TBR Walden PagdilaoWalden Pagdilao was working kitchen prep at Turtle Bay Resort but was being paid as a fry cook, which is a lower job classification. He worked with his committee leader Raymond Dixon (pictured here on the right) to fight for and win $800 in back pay—all without filing a grievance. Good job!
