UNITE HERE Local 5 and Hilton Hawaiian Village reach tentative agreement

Upon ratification, this agreement will bring workers closer to making one job enough to live in Hawaii

(Honolulu) – Early this morning, UNITE HERE Local 5 and Hilton Hawaiian Village management reached a tentative agreement on a new 4-year union contract that covers over 1,800 hotel workers.

The negotiating committee, which is made up of workers from various departments, worked with the company from May 24 to 26 to reach terms that include wage and benefits increases, job preservation, and more. Contract negotiations have been ongoing since March 22. The union contract expired on June 30, 2018.

“This is a historic agreement that will set a standard for hotel and timeshare workers in Hawaii. Hilton members stuck together to achieve a great contract that raises the standards for workers from all departments in the hotel and timeshares. Thank you to our Local 5 members and the community for supporting the Hilton workers and our campaign to make one job enough for everyone,” says Eric Gill, Financial Secretary-Treasurer of UNITE HERE Local 5.

Local 5 represents approximately 11,000 workers throughout Hawaii who work in the hospitality, health care and food service industries and is an affiliate of UNITE HERE, an international union that represents over 250,000 workers throughout the U.S. and Canada.
