On International Worker’s Day, Waikiki heard loud and clear that this year we are serious about fighting for the hospitality industry to RESPECT OUR WORK and RESPECT OUR GUESTS! Local 5 hotel workers from across the State, community leaders, and other Hawai‘i unions stood in solidarity with hotel workers rallying in 20 other cities across the U.S. and Canada all sending the same message to the hospitality industry.

Wednesday was just the beginning of a larger campaign for hotel workers in Hawai‘i and across North America with contract expirations in 2024. Over 7,000 Local 5 hotel workers have contracts expiring this year with the bulk of these expiring at the end of June. Hotel workers report heavy workloads, loss of hours, and wages that aren’t enough to support their families, while the hotel industry is making record profits.
