Kaiser Permanente Hawaii said Tuesday it plans to close 10 clinics on Oahu, Maui and Big Island and consolidate operations to its larger facilities next week, when unionized workers plan to walk off the job in what would be Unite Here! Local 5’s first statewide strike in nearly 30 years.
(Honolulu Star-Advertiser) – By Kristen Consillio. Kaiser Permanente Hawaii is making contingency plans for a six-day strike by its nearly 1,900 union workers, or about 43 percent of its workforce. The state’s largest health maintenance organization said Monday that it hasn’t determined whether to close its clinics or halt services during the strike.

(KHON 2) – Local 5, the union representing workers at Kaiser Permanente hospitals and clinics, sent a 10-day strike notice to the healthcare provider. This does not mean the workers will strike, but it provided notification a strike is possible.
