Victory! Week of Kaiser worker actions

IMG_2191 On Oahu, over 200 Local 5 members marched to City Hall to ask the Mayor & other elected leaders to stand with us in saying no new members for Kaiser until they fix it first and address workload & patient care concerns. We received pledges of support from Mayor Kirk Caldwell, City Councilmembers Ron Menor & Joey Manahan, and State Rep. Matt LoPresti.

On the Big Island, Local 5 members delegated Mayor Billy Kenoi, Deputy Managing Director Randy Kurohara, and Councilmembers Maile David & Karen Eoff. Our elected leaders are concerned about the rising cost & declining services in healthcare. City & County officials represent one of the largest workforces in Hawaii, public sector workers.

Elle Cochran Maui Workers (3)On Maui, Local 5 members delegated Councilmember Elle Cochran to inform her that Kaiser’s bid for the Maui Memorial facility could result in a healthcare monopoly on Maui.

In California, Labor leaders delivered 82 letters to Kaiser supporting us. California is Kaiser’s biggest market. CA UNITE HERE unions & AFL-CIO are clear: workers need pensions. UNITE HERE Locals 2, 11 and General President D Taylor are backing up our fight!
