Workload victory for Moana Surfrider stewards

2015.07.18 Alex Manog Moana Surfrider stewardsAlex Manog, shop steward at the Westin Moana Surfrider, and members of the stewarding department recently led a delegation to the GM and successfully made the case for more hours/staffing. Their efforts, supported by room service, led to short shifts being turned into 8 hour shifts in 2 outlets.

Kaiser workers picket for better patient care with Turtle Bay Resort workers and community leaders

2015-07-30 17.25.52Without a contract for over 3 years, Kaiser workers picketed outside Kahuku clinic and were joined by Turtle Bay Resort workers and community members. They are fighting against increased workload and standing up for better patient care.

Front services worker fights for her seniority rights

2015.07.14 Jerushua Maiava-Pratt HHVJerushua Maiava-Pratt, a Hilton Hawaiian Village front service worker, was not offered overtime by seniority. The Contract Enforcement Team filed a grievance, and Hilton agreed to pay her $207.73 in back pay.

Aston Waikiki Beach and Hotel Renew workers featured on KNDI radio

2015-07-30 21.07.41MJ Padaca, Lydia Macadangdang, Edmund Legaspi, and Tino Fabro work at Aston Waikiki Beach and Hotel Renew, two not-yet-union hotels.  They were guests on KNDI radio, hosted by Sheraton Waikiki worker Nathaniel Felicitas, where they talked about their fight for a fair process to decide whether to unionize.

Kaiser service clerk awarded higher-grade position after filing grievance

2015.06.30 Jazzmin Aio Kaiser HonJazzmin Aio works in the appointment/receptionist department at Kaiser Honolulu. Kaiser failed to let her know that the position she was applying for was temporary. She filed a grievance with the Contract Enforcement Team, and Kaiser agreed to award her a higher-grade position.

Civil Beat news story on HCC workers, wage theft

Jasmine Marbou GroupHCC workers at the Hilton Hawaiian Village were featured in a Civil Beat news article. These workers were not paid the union wage rate from 2007-2013, totaling over $1.5 million in lost wages. These workers have filed a grievance against HHV with the Contract Enforcement Team.
