Notice of Special Membership Meeting for the Purpose of Voting on a Dues Increase

The Local 5 Executive Board has called a Special Membership Meeting to discuss and take action
on a proposed dues increase. The Special Membership Meeting will be conducted in a series of
sessions on the islands of Oahu, Kauai, Maui and Hawaii. Voting on the dues increase will be by
secret ballot. Members may vote at one session only. Ballots shall be sealed and stored after
each session of the Special Membership Meeting, and counted immediately following the final
session.

You will be asked to vote YES or NO on the following question:

“Shall Local 5 dues be increased by five dollars ($5.00) per month effective July, 2017 for those
union members in the first tier of dues?”

A YES vote means that the base dues rate for workers in the hotels (except for The Hale Koa Hotel,
which is a Federal government employer) and at Kaiser Permanente would increase by five dollars
($5.00) per month in July 1, 2017.

All other members’ dues will increase by 75¢ per month on July 1, 2017, 25¢ per month on January
1, 2018, and $1.00 per month on January 1, 2018 because the Constitution of our union requires
that the base dues amounts contributed by union members increase by 75¢ per month on January
1, 2017, 25¢ per month on January 1, 2018, and $1.00 per month on January 1, 2019, for a total of
$2.00 per month. The January 1, 2017 dues increase has been postponed until July 1, to allow
Local 5 members time to vote on the above question.

A NO vote means that the base dues rate for ALL Local 5 members will increase by 75¢ per month
on July 1, 2017, 25¢ per month on January 1, 2018, and $1.00 per month on January 1, 2019 as
the Constitution requires.

You must be a Local 5 member in good standing to attend this meeting. Only members who will be
affected by the $5.00 dues increase may vote. If you are unsure of your membership status, please
call the Local 5 office at 941-2141 or toll free (800) 585-4373.
